MLB Playoff Picks

If there was ever a game where you should not have gone to bed early, it was last night's Rockies/Padres one game playoff to earn the NL Wild Card. The Rockies won in 13 innings by scoring three runs off Trevor Hoffman in the bottom half. Now that we know the match ups, my picks are as follows:

Red Sox over Angels 3-1
Yankees over Indians 3-1
Phillies over Rockies 3-0
Cubs over Diamondbacks 3-2

The Angels have some injuries with Vlad and Gary Matthews Jr and I think Manny will be back at his usual self. I like the Yankees winning Wang's start and the two games in Yankee Stadium to get by the dangerous, but lacking playoff experience, Indians. After the Rockies' emotional roller coaster last night, do not be surprised to see the Phillies sweep them. The Diamondbacks have scored 712 runs this year and allowed 732 runs, but have the best record in the league. Do not let their record fool them, the Cubs will come into Arizona in game 5 and pull off the upset.

Red Sox over Yankees 4-2
Phillies over Cubs 4-3

I give the Red Sox the nod here based on their pitching staff. Josh Beckett is the best pitcher in the playoffs, Dice-k is pitching really well of late and do not go to sleep on Curt Schilling. He is 9-8 with a 3.89 ERA this year, but he will bring his best to the playoffs, bloody sock and all. I think the NLCS is a coin toss and really think that it will come down to the Phillies being home in game 7 and give them the edge in that series. I could not be confident with my picks if I had the Cubs in the World Series anyways because Lou Pinella will make some bonehead move and lose them plenty of games.

Red Sox over Phillies 4-1

I think the AL is a lot better than the NL this year. The only NL team I thought that had a shot at winning the World Series was the Padres and I could not tell you one Phillies' pitcher so the Red Sox it is.

I will updates these picks after each round just for fun. And of course do not forget about the daily recaps of the previous night's games. Feel free to leave your predictions in the comment section. Hockey season is also starting soon so be ready for the Wild to make a Stanley Cup run.
