Josh Beckett pitcher another jem last night with 9 Ks over 7 innings and the Red Sox's bats never stopped hitting in a 13-1 win. The Rockies had an eight day rest before the World Sereies started, but I really do not think that is the reason. While every sports guy will say that, it is actually because the AL has been superior to the NL all year. The Rockies will not be winning until they get back to Coors and have those solid fans behind them, but even then, they will not be winning all three games. Look for the Red Sox to finish off the Rockies in six, with the pivotal game becoming game 3. If the the Red Sox can take game 3, watch out for the sweep Rockies.
In the NHL, the Wild were handed their first loss in regulation. The Wild scored three first period goals and looked like they were in complete domination with a 3-0 lead only to come out flat in the second and third periods to the lose 5-3 to the Flames. This was something the Wild needed, believe it or not. They needed to get that loss so they can finally just go out and play and not worrying about staying unbeaten. Also, they can learn from taking a big lead and letting it go. Now, that will be in their minds for a little while and the Wild will be playing with extra effort regardless of score. It definitely looks like a bad loss, blowing a 3-0 lead early, but if the Wild learn from this, it is no worse than any other loss.
In the NBA, while everyone is patiently waiting for the season to start, the Timberwolves are busy making the most trades in recent NBA history. Yesterday, the Timberwolves traded Ricky Davis and Mark Blount to the Miami Head for Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac and Wayne Simien along with a conditional first-rounder. Basically, what the Timberwolves are doing is getting players that have contracts that are expiring. They are starting completely over and look to be getting ready to go after a player in the offseason or are planning on rewarding the young guys that play well with big contracts within a few years. The Timberwolves starting lineup should look like this:
PG Randy Foye
SG Corey Brewer
SF Ryan Gomes
PF Craig Smith
C Al Jefferson
I would prefer to see Al Jefferson at PF, Corey Brewer at SF and Randy Foye at SG. Then we could focus on finding a strong PG and C. The Timberwolves open November 2, home against their division rival, the Denver Nuggets.
